BILL Award 2017

Slam poets, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, performance artists and everything in between: Flanders and Brussels are filled to the brim with young, creative artists. All the more reason to award the third annual BILL Award! Our goal: to showcase young and talented people, to give them a platform from which they can expand their audience and to boost their careers.

The 10 of 2017

For the third edition of the BILL Award, BILL nominated 10 young promising talents who all had major breakthroughs in their fields over the course of the past year. Contrary to 2016 - when there were 16 nominees and 4 winners - only one winner claimed the whole prize. Each nominee got an in-dept interview on our website and was featured in a Facebook-video on BILL's page.

Watch the video's here or read the interviews here.

3650 young people voted

Throughout October, people could vote for their favorite nominee on BILL's Facebookpage. Imke Vannuffelen of JongDOEK (which stimulates youngsters in their passion for theater), Art Philippeth of Poppunt (which supports young musicians and DJ's), Ruth Dupré of Danspunt (which stimulates young dancers) and Anneleen Winten of Creatief Schrijven (which supports aspiring and semi-professional writers) studied the nominees and announced their favourite(s) on Facebook. They served as an advisory jury: in the end, only the public's vote mattered.

And now the winner... Carla Swerts!

After the dust had settled, illustrator and writer Carla Swerts came out on top. She accepted her prize during the Ultimas 2017 (the official cultural prizes organised by the Flemish gouvernment) on the 27th of February at the Arenbergschouwburg in Antwerp.

On top of that, she got included in the Ultimas-communication with a professional photo shoot and made it into the pages of De Morgen (a national newspaper) with a full-length interview.

She also received 1000 euro's in order to invest in new projects.

IJkpunt (a young design firm) provided an unique trophee.

Carla can also count on professional guidance by a professional artist of her choice to take her carreer to the next level, courtesy of the Flemish government.
